| I am Tom Jackson, a third-year student at
the Episcopal seminary in Berkley. I am pleased to use my
experience in public relations, community organizing and web development
to help. I enjoy serving as the volunteer web person in the campaign to
save St. Luke's.
Why do I care?
Well, back when I was going through middle and high school, my mother
worked in the Department of Social Work at Johns Hopkins Hospital in
Baltimore. One of my older brothers took his MD and PhD at Hopkins
before training there as an intern and resident. Both of my sister in
laws are Hopkins nurses (one of my nieces is a nurse and another is
studying to become one). So much of my life involved going to Hopkins, a
hospital that like St. Luke's stands in the poor part of town and cares
for many people who aren't covered by insurance.
This year as part of my course work I am serving as a field education
student at the Episcoapl Church of
St. John the Evangelist. St. John's is where I learned
of - and enlisted in - the fight to save St. Luke's. I knew what
was at stake and had to help.
This site is designed to introduce the campaign to Save St. Luke's.
We've built in a number of blogs to let community leaders share the
latest information without having to wait for me to return from class,
finish a paper or recover from an exam. Being a student is hard work ,
and sometimes it keeps me from spending as much time as I'd like on this
campaign.
The site is designed with the hope that
people come to savestlukes.org
to learn about the issues, sign the
online petition and learn how they can
help. Please visit the:
Each of these blogs is edited by one or
more members of the St. Luke's community.
Please
e-mail me if you have any suggestions for the site.
Thanks!
Tom Jackson
